Book of Scribbles
02:21
|
|||
In amongst my mess and clutter
Scraps and sketches odds and ends
Letters written way back when by long departed friends
I scribble my dreams on an A4 page
Of heroes villains and a better age that might come
Why don't you come and see
Come and see this fantasy
Its so fancy free
So fancy free
Take a look
I lie in my pleasing fiction
On my bed in the same position
Always dreaming always weaving
Honeyed words around
The big bad world
It's a big bad world
And I could break my heart
Trying to get through
I'll break it trying to ger through to you
But you don't see things the same way
Don't listen to a word I say
I'll tell my dreams to this A4 page
You're life's a mess and a clutter
Where's your lover
Lying in the gutter
He's had too much to drink
and he's sicked up his tea
In the broken glass and vomit
not a nice place to be

The Waltzers
03:27
|
|||
Stare in the distance at the light
walking as though in a daze
strolling on a cold autumn night
through a back street maze
then out of the alleys and across the street
the old fairground stood there
where a thousand smells and the endless beat
of eighties dance filled the air
We'll go on the waltzers
and I'll take a dance well we'll
dance through the night
and how can you say
I don't love you
half as much as I might
Pretty blue eyed girl said as she
looked into these hazel eyes
she said I thought I might change the world
but it's been a nasty surprise
to find myself chucked around and tossed about
by cold harsh hands all the time
and I've looked at you and I found you out
cos your loves not as deep as mine
On the waltzers...
Please don't you say such things
cling to the end
every lover and friend
don't cast me aside
it's a mad mad ride
On the waltzers...

Wake Up Tomorrow

Sit there for a while
someone might tell you tell you how
Heart and soul have died
And the only thing that matters
Is the bottom line
All the poets they all beat them down
There's no romance left in this grey old town
Where a thousand frigfhtened eyes
Stare out their windows at
Rows and rows of factories
Tumbling to the ground
Boarded up pubs tower blocks
Scattered all around
But I'm alright
Cheap red tops dish out the blame
And there's a thousamd lonely highstreets
They all look the same
There's a world of information
in the palm of your hand
You know everything but I just don't understand
How you're so bitter and cynical
before you're twenty five
And grey haired old men
Say its not like the good old days
Half the population waite for princess DIana
To come down to them as they pray
But I'm alright
I don't need no mythical saviour
Politicians royalty
Don't hear me
I don't think they feel
Anything at all
I'm alright
But they say you've got to go out
And grab your life
But most;y I just scrape along
Sitting around singing just singing
Just another English song

That OId Reckless Spirit
01:56
|
|||
Whenever I call you on the phone
You make excuses
yeah you say you've grown
And you're not into that stuff anymore
But I'll tell you what
I thought I knew
We were different me and you
Not like the rest drinking snakebite and black
Then dancing all night to the same old track
Every time
Tell me what have you done with it
That fine old reckless spirit
The old Withnailian spirit
Oh what's the use in being so mature
You're just a beggar standing
At a rich man's door
Saying let me in I want to be
Just like you
It hurts me now
When you never show your face
I'm on my own with alll these other people
Come on out
Just one more time
For a night of song dance drink and rhyme
Or you could stay at home
Fill your shotgun full of wine

Never Never
03:41
|
|||
Are you just imagining
the cold running through your veins
and the rain that's spattering
against the window panes oh love
Won't you come round my way
I'd like to see you
Oh please don't you say
Never never no
It's not gonna happen
Don't let the silence gnaw
away at you in the bright light
Never never no
it's not gonna happen
seen al your dreams lying
on the rocks and that's not right
and it's not nice
Drink and a cigarette for an aching heart
didn't they tell you
right from the start that it would never
turn out for the best you
open up get broken up
just like the rest
Never never no
don't listen to a word they say...
Had a dream last night
You were there
You did appear just to soothe my fear
with a kiss
So come round tonight
and I won't feel so cold
with you there to hold me tight
Chance'd be a fine thing
oh such a fine thing
